Wonderful launch of a new series.
Marked was such an enjoyable read that I am looking forward to the next book.
A fast past story about Casey (Acacia), currently a book seller and waitress that has always known she did not fit in anywhere. Her life changes drastically as she leaves the club she works at and stumbles upon a man who is fighting for his life against beings she can't quite believe exist. She chases them away (or they leave when they figure out who she really is) and helps get the stranger to her home. Theron, a descendant of a Greek demigod just needs to rest and heal before he can return safely to his home and can't think of a better place than Casey's to hide out from the daemons who look for him.
Theron and Casey feel an instant attraction to each other and after Theron has gained his strength and returns home he finds out who she really is and the prophecy that involves both Casey and her sister Isadora (Theron's future wife). The King (Isodora and Casey's father) is dying and wants to save Isadora and the future of his kingdom and asks Theron to bring Casey to their homeland. Theron realizes this means sacrificing Casey for the good of his people, however he is all about being loyal and does his duty to bring Casey back to fulfill the prophecy.
The story is full of action, twists and turns that involved not only the hero and heroine but secondary characters that you enjoy reading about.
Love the interaction between Casey and Theron. The fact the Theron is so duty bound and loyal just adds to the story and angst between them.
