I'll Be Slaying You

I'll Be Slaying You (Night Watch, #2)I'll Be Slaying You by Cynthia Eden

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another great book by Cynthia Eden and the second in the Night Watch series.

This book features Dee (Sandra "Dee") the human on the Night Watch team who is a kick ass kind of gal that does not take any crap from anyone. She hunts vampires each night and has created quite a reputation as a hunter. She has hunted vampires ever since her family was murdered by them and she has been on her own until the head of the Night Watch team (Pak) finds her and trains her to be the person she is today.

We met Dee in the first Night Watch book (Eternal Hunter) and I was excited that she had her own book.

While hunting down vampires, Dee meets Simon Chase a mysterious man who seems to be everywhere she is lately. As she continues to do her job each night, a strong "Born" vampire enters the picture and is causing several problems in town. Dee gets accused of staking a human woman and with Simon's help tries to prove she was set up, however they are ambushed and she is killed. Much to her (and the others at Night Watch)she wakes up as a vampire. Suddenly Simon holds all the answers to her past and we learn that he has always been looking for her. Turns out she has a mysterious past as well and has not been as human as we all thought.

I'll Be Slaying You is a thrilling page turner that has an amazing amount of suspense, twists and turns and of course sizzling romance. A wonderful book and I will be sure to get the next in the series.

Dark Descendant

Dark Descendant (Descendants, #1)Dark Descendant by Jenna Black

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dark Descendant is a great book!

This is the first of a new series for Jenna Black and a great start. I am in the middle of reading her Morgan Kingsley books which are also great and knew that Jenna Black would write another wonderful series.

Dark Descendant is about Nikki Glass a private investigator just living her life as normal as possible when a horrible event changes her life forever. She is a descendant of a god (Artemis) and does not realize it until she accidentally kills a man who hired her (Emmett). Although we find out that maybe it was not an accident when all she knows about Emmett is false. She meets others like her - both "good" and evil and she has to make her way though the lies, deception and disbelief in her to survive in this new life.

She has to prove herself to her new "friends", Anderson the leader, Jamaal a wildly acting descendant who does not believe her, several others that have their own agendas and Maggie who seems to be the only friendly one of the bunch. All the while saving herself and her sister from a race known as the Olympians who want to control or destroy other descendants.

A thrilling adventure from start to finish and although not a cliffhanger it sure does leave you wanting to read the next in the series. Hope it finds a great audience and Jenna is able to continue for many more books.

Play of Passion

Play of Passion (Psy-Changeling, #9)Play of Passion by Nalini Singh

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great Book!

Play of Passion is back with the Pack and I love it. I love the way the Pack (SnowDancer and DarkRiver) interact within their family and with the other packs. Nalini writes such a great story about the people in these pack families that you just want to belong. Love the way they feel about each other -both in the physical and mental way.

This is Drew and Indigo's story and it is an amazing and passionate love story. Drew has known for a long time that Indigo is the one for him - but Indigo is afraid with her dominate nature they will grow to hate each other - since Drew is also very dominate yet younger. Indigo does not have a great role model as she has watched her aunt and mate fight their natures for years and become bitter. So Drew has his work cut out for him. The good thing is that although dominate, Drew has a great personality and knows just how to woo Indigo.

We are also updated with the continuing story of the battle between Psy and Changelings - those who wish to keep the Psy pure and those willing to see silence ending. It is becoming increasingly violent and those for Pure Psy believe a war will bring about enough disturbance to make all Psy believe that being pure and silent is the best way to live.

The story takes place mainly in the SnowDancer area but with interaction with all the usual players and it is great to get updated on those we have met before.

Breaking Point

Breaking Point (I-Team, #5)Breaking Point by Pamela Clare

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great Book!!

So I kind of cheated on this book because I have not read the first books in the series...but this book looked so good that I had to chance being lost. Good news - I was not lost at all and the book was everything that I thought it would be. The characters from the other books are involved but I could follow without problems and now am adding the rest of the series to my TBR list.

This book was about Zach, a Chief Deputy US Marshall who is in a bit of a bind when he meets our heroine Natalie (who is also in a similar bind). They are both being held in Mexico by the drug cartel (Zetas), for different reasons but both going to die horrible deaths.

The story is about the escape, being on the run and making it back to the USA in one piece - however both missing something as they go their own ways. Zach is holding onto a lot of hurt from when he was a SEAL and all his buddies died except him - he is suffering PTSD and does not think he could have a life with Natalie and she is living a less than happy life mourning for 6 years her fiance and parents who were all killed during Katrina. Both try to go back to their lives before the kidnapping however are pulled back together when they find out that Natalie's life is still in danger. Her kidnapping had less to do with being in the wrong place at the wrong time and more to do with a story she was writing as a journalist for a newspaper.

Great story - very intense and the romance is yummy. On to the first in the series!!

Iron Hunt

The Iron Hunt (Hunter Kiss, #1)The Iron Hunt by Marjorie M. Liu

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Loved this book - not sure why I waited so long to start this series.

The Iron Hunt is the first book in the Hunter's Kiss series. We are introduced to Maxine Kiss who is the last of the Hunters - those who protect against demons and the veil keeping them in prison.

She has tatoos covering her body which are actually demon hunters that come off at night to prowl and hunt. There are 5 of them - and the descriptions of them sound cute in a scary way. Hunter's lead a solitary life - not making friends or staying in one place. They eventually have a daughter and when the time is right the demon tatoos transfer to the daughter and the mother is killed. Sounds disturbing however it works in the story. Maxine did not want to lead such a lonely lifestyle so she sets down roots at a homeless shelter and befriends a mysterious man who is an ex-priest.

Maxine lives her life quietly and seems to be missing much of the knowledge to help her become the Hunter people believe she should be so the story is about her learning her history and what others expect from her. She does find herself in terrifying spots trying to fight a demon who has breached the veil and does fall into a netherworld where she gains some interesting tricks and hardware and where most never come back from - this all adds to her increasing knowledge and power of who she truly is and will become.

Can't wait to read the next one!!

Sins of the Heart

Sins of the Heart (Otherkin trilogy, #1)Sins of the Heart by Eve Silver

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sins of the Heart was a wonderful book. The start of a thrilling trilogy.

We follow four brothers who are soul reapers - sons of a very powerful Dark Lord (Suketh) from the underworld. Their job is to find the darkest humans and take their hearts and dark souls for their father who thrives on them.

Sins of the Heart follows Dagan who is the eldest. As he is gathering two dark souls for his "dear old dad" he meets Roxy a 19 year old who is being held against her will. There is a strong connection between the two but he knows there is no future for them. He lets her go to live a normal life with a warning about what path not to take, which would make her his enemy - becoming a Daughter of Aset.

Of course Roxy does become an Otherkin (Daughter of Aset) as this was what her mother was and when they meet again 11 years later they are torn about their feelings. Dagan and two brothers are trying to find out who killed their youngest brother and want to bring him back from wherever he is and yet the Otherkin do not want that because of the catastrophic effect that it would have on the world (top and underworld).

Through their investigations Roxy finds out about her true heritage, the reason many want a small little girl she helped save and what her true feelings are about Dagan.

This is a great book and the ending leads you straight into the next book - since it is a trilogy. :)

Vowed in Shadows (Marked Souls, #3)Vowed in Shadows by Jessa Slade

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The third book in the Novel of the Marked Souls series did not disappoint.

This was a great addition to the series - love the heroines in the stories, they think for themselves, take on all challenges, do not take any "crap" from anyone - even their mates. They are so independent and it makes for a great story.

Vowed in Shadows is about the talya Jonah who has found his mate in a stripper named Nim. They are the most unlikely pair since he walked a path of "faith" in his former life and she has been on a completely different path (think stripper). They meet while she is going through the transition however he does not get to know her in time for her to give up (sell) an important item they now need to retrieve. Nim is very receptive to the new life - probably because she does not care for her old one and I believe she likes belonging to something or someone. It takes her awhile to find the feeling of belonging because even though she puts up a great "front" about being a strong independent women - she is very insecure inside.

With Angelic help the league fights the evil Corvus to retieve the lost item. All in all a great story - can't wait for the next one - I see from the back of the book we meet a new Talya - yeah.
